About

Richard A. Schaefer concentrates his practice on a wide range of business and commercial matters, including disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, copyright, trademark, trade secrets, corporate, and real estate transactions. He has notable experience assisting clients in the all phases of litigation covering the development of litigation and settlement strategies, discovery, dispositive motions, trial in state and federal courts, and appeals.

Richard earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law with a concentration in intellectual property. While in law school, he served as the Executive Managing Editor of the Hastings Business Law Journal and was a member of the Hastings Negotiation and Mediation Team, where he won first place in Negotiation at the 2019 INADR Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament. Richard also was a member of the Startup Legal Garage, a transactional focused clinic, where he advised an early-stage fintech startup on corporate formation, IP protection, and IP licensing.

Prior to law school, Richard graduated from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) with a B.A. in Economics, cum laude. During and immediately after college, Richard worked for an international sports agency in their London office, multiple early-stage technology companies, and several international live music promotion companies.

In his free time, Richard enjoys playing golf with his friends, trying new restaurants, and reading non-fiction books.
